In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
In a video commentary on a prior discussion that took place in Speaker’s Corner, Muḥammad Hijāb presented his understanding of the issue of the base rule concerning a Muslim and issues pertaining to tabdīʿ(declaring someone to be an innovator). This article provides a clarification of some of his misunderstandings and errors in the topic and in particular his belief that the foundation with respect to any Muslim is salāmat al-iʿtiqād (safety, soundness of belief).
This is the first of a series of articles which explore the novel understanding of “Sunnism” and “Salafism” that Qadhi and Hijab are trying to promote which is nothing but a revival of the way of Hasan al-Banna for the 21st century, clothed with rhetoric, opinion and philosophy with some Orientalist flakes on the top for good measure.
Part 1: The ʿAṣl (Foundation) of a Muslim and Issues Pertaining to Tabdīʿ of those Who Oppose the Way of the Salaf:

Part 2: Yasir Qadhi’s Distortion of History, Shielding Contemporary Jahmites and Weakening Sunni Theology—1
Excerpt: Both Yasir Qadhi and Muḥammad Ḥijāb are Ikhwānīs, upon a misguided way. The difference between the two, however, is that Qadhi is a bit more shrewd in that he will not make an ascription to anything except a broad “Sunni Islām” label. This is because as soon as you make attachment to Salafiyyah, or say that you follow the Ḥanbalī way or something along those lines, then you open yourself up to scrutiny, and your lies and the contradiction between your beliefs, sayings, and actions can very easily be exposed—because you have openly announced that you can be judged by the standard that you claim to be adhering to.
However, Ḥijāb is a dunce, despite how sophisticated and intellectual he makes himself out to be. He does not have much social intelligence. So he will make a spurious attachment to Salafiyyah on occasions, or he will claim to be upon the Ḥanbalī creed or way. This allows him to be scrutinised upon those standards, and it can be very easily shown that he is a liar and an imposter in his claim of following the way of the Salaf in general, or following the way of Imām Aḥmad.

Part 2: Yasir Qadhi’s Distortion of History, Shielding Contemporary Jahmites and Weakening Sunni Theology—2
Excerpt: Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751H) wrote two monumental books in refutation of the Jahmiyyah Ashʿariyyah who were present in the 8th century hijrah (they obviously didn’t cease to exist). The first, Ijtimāʿ al-Juyūsh al-Islāmiyyah ʿalā Ḥarb al-Muʿaṭṭillah wal-Jahmiyyah, which was authored on the subject of al-ʿUluww—something all Ashʿarīs from the fifth century hijrah (until today) deny and consider to be tajsīm and kufr. The second is al-Ṣawāʿiq al-Mursalah ʿalā al-Jahmiyyah wal-Muʿaṭṭalah, which is largely a refutation of many of the principles laid down and made popular by Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (d. 606H) in his works, which are founded upon the doctrine of the Jahmites in relation to al-ʿUluww and the Ṣifāt Khabariyyah.

Part 2: Yasir Qadhi’s Distortion of History, Shielding Contemporary Jahmites and Weakening Sunni Theology—3
Excerpt: Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah says in Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā (16/213):
“Thus do the Jahmites accuse the affirmers of the attributes, that they are the ‘Jews of this Ummah.’ This is found in the speech of the early Jahmites and also the later ones, such as what is mentioned by Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad bin ʿUmar al-Rāzī, the Jahmite, Jabarī…”
What Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah has mentioned here about al-Rāzī is what today’s Ashʿarites are upon—of accusing Ahl al-Sunnah of being like the Jews and Christians, falling into tajsīm and tashbīh for affirming Allāh’s ʿuluww and the ṣifāt khabariyyah—and Ibn Taymiyyah labelled al-Rāzī explicitly as a “Jahmite.”
By this standard, the Ashʿarites present today are certainly Jahmites—the leaders and figureheads amongst them. And these people have schools, institutions, curriculums, and they actively propagate what are, at their core, doctrines of kufr, such as negation of ʿuluww (which is fiṭriyy, dharūriyy)—though we do not make takfīr of them due to barriers being present.

Part 2: Yasir Qadhi’s Distortion of History, Shielding Contemporary Jahmites and Weakening Sunni Theology—4
Imām ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz bin Bāz was asked a question about studying with a person who says: “If you have not seen Allāh, then how do you know His direction?”
He replied: “Do not study with him, my advice is that you do not study with this hardcore Jahmite, this Jahmite, do not study with him. Allāh is above the heaven, in ʿuluww, above the Throne. The one who rejects this is a kāfir, we ask Allāh for safety.” Sharḥ Bulūgh al-Marʾām (Kitāb al-Buyūʿ) 6th cassette (recording with me).
Who do you trust and believe? A righteous Imām from the Imāms of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah (Ibn Bāz), who—following the Righteous Salaf—declares the one who denies Allāh’s ʿuluww to be “a hardcore Jahmite” on that count alone and warns from studying with him? Or a conceited and arrogant pseudo-intellectual babbler, put to trial with what he thinks he possesses of intellect, and claims the Jahmites are long gone, dead, buried, and in the annals of history?

Part 2: Yasir Qadhi’s Distortion of History, Shielding Contemporary Jahmites and Weakening Sunni Theology—5
Excerpt: What a man intends in his da’wah is known through his actions, his loyalties, friendships, and allegiances. A man can sit and teach from books for days, weeks, and months and say whatever he likes. But when he walks, talks, and mixes, how much he really, truly values what he is otherwise preaching in his lessons becomes readily apparent.

Part 3: The Great Companion ʿUmar bin al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه), the Islamic Creed and Salafiyyah Through the Eyes, Heart and Mind of Yasir Qadhi—1
Excerpt: We see Qadhi’s Orientalist poison in the doubts he harbours about the Qurʾān, his Orientalist attitude towards Salafiyyah. We see him upon the manhaj of Ḥasan al-Bannā in trying to find the least common denominator upon which to unite Muslims, and accommodating Ṣūfīs, Jahmīs, Qaʿdī Khārijites, and perhaps even the Rāfiḍah within that denominator. He is evidently a loud braggart; this is well-known and it is something reported even way back from his days in Madīnah during the 1990s. It was related in those days that he wrote the book “al-Riyāʾ: Hidden Shirk”, because he was struggling with this affliction himself and was perhaps looking to doctor himself after self-diagnosis. It appears he has not moved on much since those days.

Part 3: The Great Companion ʿUmar bin al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه), the Islamic Creed and Salafiyyah Through the Eyes, Heart, and Mind of Yasir Qadhi—2: The ‘Ecumenical Conception of Salafiyyah’ Explained
Excerpt: … Seventy-two sects from this nation are in the Hellfire. Have you seen what is the cause?! It is because they disputed [in matters of creed] with the [vain] disputation of those who came before them. They disputed in their religion, their creed, and they differed a great deal. You will see from this ummah today, those who dispute in the affairs of ʿaqīdah and create doubts about it. They want the desires [innovations] to take the place of the affairs established in the Sunnah. So this is disputing in falsehood, and refuge is with Allāh. And it is resembling the people who came before us.

Part 3: The Great Companion ʿUmar bin al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه), the Islamic Creed and Salafiyyah Through the Eyes, Heart, and Mind of Yasir Qadhi—3: ʿAqīdah, From a Foundation to a Branch
Excerpt: … The Messenger of Allāh struggled against the Quraysh Pagans for the tanzīl (revelation) of the Qurʾān, because they did not believe it was from Allāh. And the People of the Sunnah struggle against Ahl al-Bidʿah for the taʾwīl (interpretation) of the Qurʾān, because they oppose how the Salaf understood it from the Messenger (ﷺ). So they are the inheritors and true followers of the Prophet, and Ahl al-Bidʿah are the followers of the ways of the past nations who went astray and earned wrath.
