In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“Standing in opposition to one’s desires places the servant in such a rank that if he were to make a supplication in Allāh’s name, Allāh will not leave it unfulfilled. His needs would then be granted in multiples, many times more than what he lost by abandoning his desires.
It is as though he turned away from a dung pellet and, in exchange, was given a pearl. On the other hand, the one who follows his desires loses both immediate and future benefits, as well as a pleasant life, in ways that are incomparable to anything he may have gained through his desires.“
