In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
Question:
May Allāh treat you with goodness, Shaykh. there are organisations that conduct collections; they take Zakāt as money, then they buy Zakāt al-Fiṭr with it, and then they distribute it?
Answer:
Shaykh al-ʿAllāmah Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān: The first thing is, who authorised these organisations for this? Did they receive any fatwā (ruling) from the Dār al-Iftāʾ? Who appointed them for this matter? They are not permitted to interfere in such matters. What Muslims must do is that each person should give his Zakāt himself through his own action. They (the organisations) must not interfere in it. Through that interference of theirs, they are committing an error.
Question (continued):
But, respected Shaykh, may Allāh treat you with goodness, they say that they have a fatwā from a member of the Committee of Senior Scholars (Kibār al-ʿUlamāʾ).
Answer:
Shaykh al-ʿAllāmah Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān: The answer we have to say is this: a fatwā can be right or it can be wrong. What we have is the dalīl (evidence).
