In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
Question:
What is the ruling on seeking help from jinn in permissible matters?
Answer:
Shaykh ʿArafāt ibn Ḥassan al-Muḥammadi: Do not seek help from jinn in any matter, because you do not know whether this one is a Muslim or a disbeliever. Is he an ʿifrīt, or a shayṭān, or a mārid? How can you believe him? Their default nature is lying.
We may believe them in some matters that are unrelated (to belief or religion); we may believe them, for example, if you speak to the jinn and command him to leave, and he claims that he has embraced Islām and claims that he has left. Especially in the case of an expert who knows about these things, you will see the effect of this departure on the patient. The patient admits that he feels better, that the pains he used to feel are no longer present, and that the harm that existed has gone. So you say: perhaps he was telling the truth. Why? Because the matter is over for this patient.
So, you may believe him in some matters, just as the Prophet (ﷺ) told Abū Hurairah: “He told you the truth, although he is a liar.” What made us believe him in certain things is that there were indications (or evidences) that showed that he was being truthful in this specific case. That’s acceptable. But as for seeking his help, no. Do not seek his help, nor rely on him for anything. Just command him to leave: “Get out of this body; it is not lawful for you to remain in it.”
